If you’re looking for extra help keeping your home cool during the rest of the summer, here are four tips you can use:
1. Check to see that all your ceiling fans turn counterclockwise. By turning counterclockwise, they help hot air rise to the ceiling.
2. Set out a box fan and put a bowl of ice in front of it. As the ice melts, the fan will create a cool mist that the whole room will feel. If you have pets or little kids running around your household, they might take special delight in this trick.
3. Plant some trees or sunflowers around your property. These can help block incoming sunlight, so check out your local nursery and see if anything catches your eye.
4. Shut all the blinds and close all the drapes. Again, this will help prevent incoming sunlight from overheating the inside of your house. This is something I do at my house, and it really makes a difference.
